FAQ

What is LOLER?

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) are in place to ensure that all lifting equipment is used in a safe manner. Anyone who operates lifting equipment on the job are required to comply to these regulations, which come under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

It should be noted that a LOLER inspection, known officially as a ‘thorough examination’, is not the same as routine maintenance such as replacing worn or damaged parts,      topping up fluid levels, or making minor adjustments. LOLER testing must be performed by what is known officially as a ‘competent person’: someone qualified to perform the thorough examination.

In short, LOLER is a health and safety regulation specific to lifting equipment. If your business owns or operates lifting equipment in any capacity, it must comply with these regulations. To do so, your equipment must regularly undergo a thorough examination performed by a competent person.

When is LOLER examination Required?

12 months for Lifting equipment or 6 months if lifting equipment is used for lifting persons and six months for accessories i.e. Slings etc

When is LOLER examination Required?
